Hi everyone, my name is Arthur Galura. I was born and raised for the first 9 years of my life in the Philippines. While those 9 years were full of memories, I had to move to Las Vegas, NV in 2014. The adjustment from a different country to the US was difficult due to me having to get used to everything in my surroundings.
My hobbies are playing basketball, trying new foods, and also watching anime. I play in a few Filipino leagues here in Las Vegas. Trying new food is always an interesting experience because you never know what it taste like until you try it. I've been into anime since I was a kid, and up till now I still watch it from time to time.
This semester, I am currently taking IS101. My first impressions of this class is that its a lot of work. So my job is to stay on top of everything that is expected out me while taking this class. I plan to check my outlook at least once a day to know what is happening, especially for this class.
The skill I chose was from lesson 3.4.3 Navigation facts. This skill is important to me as I am a Business Major and I will be using Excel Worksheet and also Word. One way I can use this skill is replacing a word that I don't like, with another word that fits the document. It is an easier way of changing a word or phrase rather than going through the entire document.
I too spend the years of my life in Asia then immigrated to the U.S. at almost the same age, Arthur :-)
ReplyDeleteYour first impression of IS101-3205, Spring 2025 is accurate and your response is good. The find and replace feature can be used not just in a Word document or Excel spreadsheet but other Microsoft Office files too ^_^
Keep up your positive attitude and hard work and you will not only earn your business degree but anything and everything beyond!
Hey Arthur! Moving to a new country is definitely a big adjustment, but it’s awesome that you’ve built a life here while staying connected to your roots. IS101 is definitely a lot of work, but staying on top of Outlook will help a ton. Navigation facts are super useful, especially in business, you’re right, replacing words efficiently saves so much time. Looking forward to learning alongside you this semester! ^-^
ReplyDeleteHello Arthur! I, too, enjoy watching anime. My favorite anime right now is Solo Leveling and Jujutsu Kaisen, but if we go into my introduction to anime, it would be One Piece, Dragon Ball, Initial D, and Death Note, to name a few. Yes, the key to this class is to stay on top of everything because once you fall behind, it seems like a lot of work to catch up. I look at my emails very often for work, so when I finish work emails or personal emails, I check my school ones while I'm in there already since I use Outlook for work and personal.
ReplyDeleteHi Arthur! I love traveling and one my favorite parts is trying new food. It is an interesting experience! IS101 is very engaging and requires a lot of work, but your plan of checking Outlook daily will definitely help with staying on track. I, too, am a Business Major and use Word and Excel daily. The find and replace and thesaurus features are very helpful! Good luck on your journey to earning your business degree.

ReplyDeleteI can't imagine the culture shock of moving to a different country, even at such a young age. I was born in Mexico but was only one when we moved to Las Vegas, so I have no memories of life before here. I would watch Dragon Ball and Ronan Warriors growing up but didn't really get too into them. My kids on the other hand know every single fact about the anime they watch. I also use the thesaurus to help make what I'm writing look a little different than the typical words used.
ReplyDeleteHey Arthur! My father was from the Philippines, and I’d love to visit there someday. I also enjoy watching anime and basketball in my free time as a Lakers fan! We’re in the same boat when it comes to staying on top of everything and working ahead whenever possible. It makes things so much easier instead of stressing and cramming to get everything done at the last minute.
ReplyDeleteHello Arthur, I too had to change my living and my way of thinking when I moved to the U.S. from Sri Lanka. It was definitely a culture shock, but with time, I think I adapted pretty well. Frequently checking Outlook is one of the essential but one of the most overlooked parts of the course.
ReplyDeleteHello Arthur!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what your transition was like from the Philippines to Vegas, but, as a Vegas native, we are glad to have you here with us! What animes are you into? I have watched a handful but I am thinking about getting back into them. I would love to hear your recommendations!
Navigation facts sound interesting! I agree, going through an entire document is tedious, so good for you on learning how to replace only one word!
Hi Arthur!
ReplyDeleteMoving from the Philippines to Las Vegas must have been a huge change, but it sounds like you’ve made it work! Basketball, trying new foods, and anime are all such cool hobbies, especially when you’re involved in Filipino leagues here in Vegas. That’s a great way to stay connected with your roots!
Looking forward to hearing more about your progress, and good luck with balancing everything! Keep enjoying the anime and basketball!
Hi there Arthur, I hope moving to Vegas has been more positive than negative for you.
ReplyDeleteHey Arthur! I'm sure by now you have adjusted to living here and have seen how Nevada has grow overtime. Ever since we learned about the thesaurus within Word and how it suggest words for you, I have been using it. It's much faster compared to opening another tab and looking up synonyms.
ReplyDeleteHey Arthur,
ReplyDeleteAdjusting to a new country at a young age must have been challenging, but it’s great to see you thriving in Las Vegas! Playing in Filipino basketball leagues and exploring new foods sounds like a fun way to stay connected to your roots while embracing new experiences. And anime is always a solid hobby—there’s always something new to enjoy!
IS101 does seem like a lot of work, but staying on top of Outlook and keeping organized is a smart approach. Your focus on navigation skills in Excel and Word will definitely come in handy, especially in business. The find-and-replace feature is such a time-saver!
Best of luck this semester—keep up the great work!

ReplyDeleteHi Arthur,
ReplyDeleteMoving to a new country definitely probably was a huge shock to you, I can only imagine. I also love food and love trying new foods and foods from different cultures. I'm a chef so whenever I can learn about other cultures and what they use in their dishes, I'm always game!
Hi Arthur,
ReplyDeleteIt is cool to meet someone from the Philippines. My grandmother moved to the U.S. when she was a teenager, so unfortunately I am now third generation white washed. I have started to learn Tagalog and want to visit the Philippines to hopefully get more in touch with my roots.
Hi Arthur, I heard the Philippines is gorgeous, I will be visiting soon, maybe within the next five years. Trying new foods is always amazing, especially when you end up loving it and you go back multiple times. Also, a little sad when you don’t end up liking it and that money was wasted but that’s the experience of trying new food. I recently tried a new pizza place called Dom DeMarco’s, best pizza I've had in Vegas since living here for seven years.
ReplyDeleteHi Arthur,
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of Pilipino friends. When I first met them, I thought they were Mexican because of their last names. I guess they too were also conquered by the Spanish.
Hi Arthur! That is so cool that you grew up in the Philippines! I have distant family there and want to visit so bad personally. I like anime too, do you have any specific shows you like most?
